Pulwama, Feb.2 (ANI): Suspected militant ambushed and killed four policemen as they were passing through Rakh Latter Watchi in Pulwama District, about 35 km south of Srinagar.
Three other police personnel were injured in the ambush. Those killed have been identified as Head Constable Ishtaq Ahmad, Constable Mohd Azam, Driver Noor Mohd, one body is yet to be identified and the injured as constable Muzaml, Sg. Constable Nazir Ahmad and constable Remash Kumar.
The injured police personnel have been admitted to Srinagar's SMHS Hospital.
The entire area has been cordoned off by security personnel in a bid to hunt down the attackers. No militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
The Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police is under a scanner these days, following revelations of a number deaths having taken place in fake encounters. So far, two bodies have been exhumed and two more are expected to be exhumed in coming days.
In all the cases, the SOG had declared that those killed were hardcore militants of the Lashker-e-Toiba and of Pakistan nationality. But initial investigations have revealed that the bodies that were exhumed were of innocent civilians, and that they were killed only to get rewards under a programme that rewards security personnel who capture or kill militants.
